John J. Kujawa

John J. Kujawa, age 69, of Valparaiso, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at the University of Chicago Hospital. He was born on March 1, 1950 in East Chicago, IN to the late Joe and Bessie Kujawa. On May 23, 1970, he married Judith (nee Zimmer) Kujawa in New Buffalo, MI. John recently retired from US Steel where he worked as a locomotive mechanic for 48 years. In his free-time, he enjoyed woodworking, fishing and traveling. He loved his family and cherished the time he spent with his four sons.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Judith Kujawa; sons, Christopher J. (Jennifer) Kujawa, Matthew J. (Keri) Kujawa, Aaron J. (Toni) Kujawa, Nicholas J. (Michelle Blackburn) Kujawa; grandchildren, Jessica Smith, Christopher Kujawa, Jr., Matthew Kujawa II, Nathan Kujawa, Nicole Smith, Xanth Rossnagle, Joshua Kujawa, Zoie Rossnagle, Madeline Kujawa and Haley Kujawa; great grandchildren, Issaiah Smith, Christopher Kujawa III, Bryce Kujawa, Rowan Smeltzer; sister, Nancy Smith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Bessie Kujawa; father and mother-in-law, Dave and Jean Zimmer; brother-in-law, William Smith; daughter-in-law, Christy Greenboam; nephew, Robert Smith.

Visitation for John will be held Sunday, March 31, 2019 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, April 1, 2019 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 356 W. Seven Mile Road, Valparaiso, IN 46385 with visitation there from 9:00 am until the time of Mass. Rev. Paul Quanz officiating. For more information, please call (219) 762-3013.
