John MacKenzie, age 76, of Lake Station, passed away Friday, December 30, 2016. He was born on May 22, 1940 in Gary, Indiana to the late George and Mary MacKenzie. John retired from National Steel, Midwest Division, where he worked as a Steelworker for 27 years. John spent many years cutting hair at Bob's Barber Shop in Lake Station until it closed and then continued to cut hair out of his home. He enjoyed talking with people and will always be remembered for his kind nature. John never met a stranger.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon MacKenzie; sons, Jeff (Cheryl) McKinney, Richard (Dorthy) MacKenzie, Scott (Lora) Chessor; daughters, Denise (Paul) Bradford, Mary Jo (Melvin) Gaskins; and many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his first wife, Edna MacKenzie; sons, Chuck McKinney, Mike McKinney; daughter, Kathy Stafford. Memorial contributions in John's name may be made to the American Cancer Society.
A funeral service for John will take place Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at 10:00 am at Rees Funeral Home, Brady Chapel, 3781 Central Ave. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 3, 2017 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
