John G. Mikaitis

Age 60, a lifetime Northwest, Indiana resident, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2013 at Porter Regional Hospital in Valparaiso. He was born on December 4, 1952 to the late John and Irene (nee Sandars) Mikaitis in Gary, Indiana. On January 23, 1976, John married Patricia Chelf in Crown Point, Indiana. He was a retired Postal carrier for the Gary Post Office and was a member of Northwest Indiana Song Writers Guild. John was a musician, song writer, singer, woodworker and cabinet maker. He also was an avid computer programmer. He spent his retirement tutoring children and working as a substitute school teacher.

He is survived by his loving wife; Patricia "Trish" Mikaitis of Portage, son; Chris Mikaitis of Richmond, Indiana, sister; Diane (Robert) Samansky of Portage, Aunt Dorothy Novak of Las Vegas, Nevada, and many other loving family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, uncles; George (Bernarda) Toth, Steven (Edna) Mack, Andrew Novak, and cousin; Amy Augustine. In lieu of flowers donations to American Diabetes Association would be appreciated.

A visitation will be held Monday, July 1, 2013 from 12:00-2:00 pm and 4:00-8:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage, Indiana.
