John Oran O'Dell, age 60, of Hobart, passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2016. He was born on March 22, 1955 in Gary, Indiana to the late John O'Dell and Marilyn Arts. John was self-employed as a painter. He served as the wrestling coach at Edison High School in Lake Station from 1989 to 1993. In his free time, John enjoyed woodworking, in particular making birdhouses and jewelry boxes for friends. He was an avid Cubs fan since the age of nine and he also liked Notre Dame.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Leedona (nee Nolan) O'Dell; son, Joshua O'Dell; daughter, Shanacy O'Dell; and precious dog, YiYi. Memorial contributions in John's name may be made to the family.

A memorial service for John will take place Friday, January 29, 2016 at 1:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Lake Station, 1309 Central Avenue, Lake Station with Pastor David Nykamp officiating. There will be a luncheon immediately following the service in the fellowship hall of the church. Cremation services are being provided by Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel.
