John P. Reder "Jack", age 87, of Lake Station passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at Miller Merry Manor in Portage. John was born March 18, 1938, in Gary, Indiana to the late Howard and Evelyn (Warner) Reder. He retired from US Steel in 1993 with 34 years of service he also worked for Wiseway Foods and the NWI-Times newspaper. Jack was a pet lover and rescued several dogs throughout his lifetime.

He is survived by his two sons, Scott (Kelly) Reder of Illinois, and Steven (Christine) Reder of Colorado; two daughters, Sheryl (Michael) Kirkwood of Valparaiso, and Cynthia (Stephen) Torres of Louisiana; nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren; and a sister, Julia Fairley of Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice (Kielkowski) Reder, and parents, Howard and Evelyn (Warner) Reder.

Visitation for Jack will be Tuesday, January 20, 2026, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Rees Funeral Home, Brady Chapel 3781 Central Avenue Lake Station, Indiana 46405. His Funeral will follow immediately at 12:00 pm at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Calumet Park Cemetery Merrillville, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
