John Fredrick Rans, 81 of Hobart, Indiana passed away peacefully on August 27, 2024.  John was born on April 14, 1943 to Henry and Ethel Rans.  John was a lifelong resident of Hobart and was a 1961 graduate of Hobart High School.  After graduation John went to earn his certification as a mechanic specializing in German cars, Porsche and Volkswagen.  John had a successful career as a mechanic owning a business, Rans Services and Sales with his brother, Bob.  John later transitioned into a career with the River Forest School system in maintenance and facilities department until his retirement.  While John's first love may have been automobiles his true love was his wife of 60 years, Judy.  John and Judy were married on November 25, 1964.  Together they built a wonderful life and were the proud parents of two children, Julie and Jay. They were often surrounded by family and friends and spent many fun filled days at local car shows.

John and Judy shared a passion for classic cars.  John could often be found working on his newest project in his pole barn.  John's talent for rebuilding classic cars and his attention to detail did not go unnoticed as he won multiple awards and trophies around the state.  John had immense pride and love for his four grandchildren and one great-grandchild, Kristina, Dylan, Lily, Victor and Eloise.  He cherished the time and memories they made together.

John is survived by his devoted wife, Judy, children, Julie Rans Swanson, Jay (Emily) Rans, brother, Bob (Beverly) Rans, grandchildren, Kristina Swanson, Dylan Swanson, Lily (Dylan) Stegall, Victor Rans and Eloise Stegall.

Cremation will take place with Rees Funeral Home, and Cremation Service, (219) 942-2109.  A private celebration of life is scheduled for a later date.
