John Marvin Russell, age 71 of Portage, passed away Thursday, June 15, 2017. He was born on September 27, 1945 in Gary, Indiana to the late Leo and Joy (nee Garrison) Russell. John was a retired team leader at US Steel. John proudly served his country in the United States Army. On August 14, 1971 John married the love of his life Charlotte Medley. He was a handy man, who enjoyed golfing, and in his younger years enjoyed riding his motorcycle. John will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Russell of Portage; two daughters, Karin (Christopher) Traywick , Melissa (Joe Arnold) Russell both of Portage; brother, Chuck Russell; three sisters , Gail (Bruce) Thorn, Carol (Al) Campbell and Donna Cardenas; brother in law, Thomas Medley; three sister in laws, Kathy (Bob) Ton, Paula (Chuck) Powers and Teresa Tachik, nieces, nephews and other family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Gary, Rob and Doug Russell; two sisters, Nancy Stanhope and Mary Reese; father and mother-in-law, Thomas and Erlene Medley and brother-in-law, James Medley.

Funeral services are Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 5341 Central Ave. Portage, Indiana 46368. Burial will follow at McCool Cemetery, Portage. Visitation is Monday, June 19, 2017 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. also at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave, Portage, Indiana 46368. (219) 762-3013.
