John J. Serratto "Johnny Boy"

John Joseph Serratto "Johnny Boy", age 67, passed away Sunday, February 16, 2025. He was born on September 18, 1957, in Gary to the late John P. and Helen (nee Rodriguez) Serratto. He was a 1975 River Forest High School graduate and attended Purdue North Central. John retired in 2019 from US Steel where he worked as a millwright planner for over 42 years of service. John cherished traveling with his wife Debi, and the yearly family vacations.  He enjoyed outdoor activities and was an avid reader. Always carrying his harmonica, he was passionate about playing and listening to music, had a fondness for sports, and adored his children and grandchildren. He will be remembered for his warm and welcoming smile. His friendly nature meant that he never met a stranger.

He is survived by his loving wife of 46 yrs. Deborah "Debi" Serratto; son, John Thomas "JT" (Megan) Serratto; daughter, Nicole "Nikki" (Blake) Riley; five grandchildren, Brooklyn Riley, Layla Riley, Deacon Riley, Ari Serratto and Johnny Serratto; four sisters, Louisa (Tom) Magallanez, Anita (Raul) Flores, Henrietta Maldonado, and Roberta (Alfonso) Ramos; brother, Paul Serratto; sister in law, Kimm (Lowell) Shepherd; numerous nieces and nephews and other loving family members and friends.

John was preceded in death by his father, John P. Serratto; mother, Helen Serratto; father-in-law, Bob Thomas and mother-in-law, Hazel Thomas.

A funeral service for John will be held on Friday February 21, 2025, at 1: 00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 west Old Ridge Road, Hobart Indiana 46342. The burial will be held privately. A visitation for John will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2025, from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. also at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel.
