John J. Tabor Sr.
Age 77 of Portage passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2024. He was born on November 2, 1946, to the late Anton and Kamila (nee Bryl) Tabor in Verdin, Germany. On December 30, 1966, he began sharing his life with his devoted wife Kathleen (nee Posavac) Tabor. John honorably served in the United States Army and later, he retired from Arcelor Mittal after 43 years of service. He was a member of Nativity of Our Savior and cherished quality time with family. He was an enthusiastic golfer and also had a passion for woodworking and fishing. John will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 yrs., Kathleen Tabor; daughter, Tamara (Robert) Fredrickson; three sons, John (Kresha) Tabor Jr., Jared (Kristin) Tabor, and Jason (Becky) Tabor; nine grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren; brother, Richard (Kathleen) Tabor and many other loving family members and friends. John was preceded by his parents, and sister, Sylvia Sebben. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, September 30, 2024, beginning with 9:15 am prayers at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, Indiana 46342 then processing to Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church, 2949 Willowcreek Rd. Portage, Indiana 46368 for a 10:00 am Mass. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Portage, Indiana 46368. Visitation will be held Sunday, September 29, 2024, from 4:00-8:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel.
