JOHNNY MARTINEZ, age 70, of Valparaiso, passed away Saturday, October 18, 2014. He was born on August 7, 1944 in Brownsville, Texas and had been a longtime Porter County resident. Johnny served his country in the US Air Force and was a retiree of US Steel Gary Works. He enjoyed going to the South Haven Rosewood daily for his coffee. Johnny was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be remembered for his love of the Chicago Bears and rock 'n' roll.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Donna; 4 daughters, Shannon Martinez of Valparaiso, Jennifer (Jeff) Steinke of Riverview, FL, Carrie Martinez of Fort Wayne, and Christina Martinez of Riverview, FL; 2 grandchildren, Madison and Matthew Steinke; brother, Samuel Martinez of Dallas, TX; 3 sisters, Concha Martinez of Brownsville, TX, Lala (Robert) Tondreau of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Magdalena Strickland of Albuquerque.
Johnny was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Leo Martinez.

A funeral service for Johnny will be Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage. Visitation will also be on Wednesday at the funeral home from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service. Cremation will follow the service.
