Jose Cavada-Herrera, age 94, of Gary passed away Tuesday March 18, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Jose was born December 6, 1919 in Durango, Mexico to the late Abel and Josefa (Herrera) Cavada. Jose retired from the maintenance Department of Superior Meat Products. Jose was a member of Amalgamated Meat Cutters of North America. He was loved by his family and will be greatly missed.

Jose is survived two sons Salvador and Alfredo Cavada both of Gary; three daughters Maria (Jose) Chavez of Chicago, IL, Josefina (Jose) Valdivia of Chicago, IL and Ernestina Cavada of Aurora, IL; eight grandchildren Michael (Lindsey), Jose Jr., Lenette, David (Angelica), Jose Luis (Patricia), Christina, Ramiro and Joseph; nineteen great grandchildren Luis, Tatyana, Etairic, Aaerion, Michael, Jose, Tiago, Christopher, Jennifer, Josue, Eric, Jose Luis, Juan, Alex, Veronica, Valerie, Eddie, Jajuan and Antoni; two great great grandchildren Jacob and Julian; several nieces and nephews; and many relatives in Mexico.

Jose was preceded in death by his loving wife Altagracia, his parents, and two sons Jose and Abel Cavada.

Jose's family wishes to extend a special thanks to Betsy Cervantes of Christian Home Health for the special care she has shown and to the Hospice Franciscan Community.

Funeral services will be 11:30 am Saturday March 22, 2014 at Rees Funeral Home 600 W. Old Ridge Road Hobart, IN 46342 with Rev. Frank Torres officiating. Burial will follow in Calumet Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 9:30 to 11:30 am at the funeral home.
