JOSEPH A. "JOE" PEREZ, age 78, of Valparaiso, passed away, Sunday, May 26, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on March 20, 1946, in Lares, Puerto Rico to the late Juan L. and Maria Perez.  Joe retired from US Steel (formerly Midwest) as a steelworker after many years of service. He was an avid gardener and fisherman who was known to enjoy a Sunday drive in the country.  Joe also enjoyed watching a good Western or B-rated horror film, riding a rollercoaster or eating a good meal. He was a huge fan of music, especially Santana. Above all, Joe loved his family and cherished the time he spent with them, especially his grandson, Carey L. Perez, Jr.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Carol Perez (nee Sours); son, Carey L. Perez; grandson, Carey L. Perez, Jr.; brothers, Luis (Alejandra) Perez; sister, Hilda (George) Pabey; sister-in-law, Lily Perez; nieces, nephews, and other loving family and dear friends.

Preceded in death by son, Joey Perez; parents, Juan Perez and Maria Perez; brother, Epifanio Perez; and sister, Carmen (Ray) Rivera.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Joe's memory may be made to The Gideons International or American Cancer Society.
