IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joseph
Fallon
January 8, 1940 – July 14, 2021
Joseph Daniel Fallon of Hobart and formerly Chicago, retired Chicago Police Department, Cook County State's Attorney Office, and Security Officer at Community Savings Bank, past International Vice President of the International Association of Marble, Slate, and Stone Polishers, Rubbers and Sawyers, Tile and Marble Setters Helpers Union, and United States Air Force veteran, passed away on July 14, 2021 at age 81. Joe was the devoted and beloved husband of Dolores (nee Gursky), loving father of Suzanne (Joseph) Kusar, Jodee (Thomas) Sargeant, Kirsten (Brian) Richter, and Joseph Fallon, Jr. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren Margaret, Madeline, Meredith, and Andrew Kusar, Braiden and Kameron Richter and his nieces and nephew along with his many friends and former colleagues among whom he was most admired and respected. He was preceded in death by his daughter Erin Therese, parents John and Gerturde Fallon, brother John (June) Fallon and sister Almeda Lawson. "Fadder Joe" loved fishing and looked forward to annual angling trips to Leach Lake in Minnesota, was an avid scholar of history and particularly Chicago history, National Geographic, and everything Alaska where he spent time during his Air Force career. He was a master of culinary creations at his Weber Grill and was known for his meatloaf. He was most devoted to his work and committed to public service and known for having a pocket full of candy to offer kids he encountered at crime scenes to put them at ease. He fondly remembered his teen-aged years living in Hollywood, California, especially caddying at the Wilshire Country Club and graduating from St. John Vianney High School in Los Angeles where he met his closest lifelong friend Mario Brunetti. He had a great love of the music from the jazz musicians of the 1940s and 50s, country and classical, as well as the hits of Motown. When not in uniform, he took great pride in his attire and was known for his dapper appearance, having over 500 ties in his wardrobe. After high school, he returned to Chicago and entered the tile setting trade until enlisting in the US Air Force in 1962, serving in the Security Service and attaining the rank of Airman 1st Class. He took great pride in his military career, serving in Alaska and Stewart Air Force Base in New York where he met the love of his life Dolores who he married on January 15, 1966 in Bayonne, New Jersey. It was that same year he returned to Chicago and resumed tile setting work, eventually rising to International Vice President of his union. He always dreamed of following in his family's legacy serving the citizens of his beloved Chicago in law enforcement and this was realized in 1973 when he entered the Chicago Police Academy, serving on CPD until his first retirement in 1994 at which time he was working as a Gang Crimes Specialist (I/F F!). That retirement lasted a weekend and he then embarked upon his 15 year career with the Cook County States Attorney Office, starting as an Investigator, then becoming a Field Training Officer and patiently mentoring a myriad of young Investigators who appreciated the rich law enforcement experience and vast knowledge he imparted upon them. He then served on the security detail of State's Attorney Richard Devine. Prior to retirement he served as an usher at Our Lady of Victory parish where his faith and spiritual life were enriched by his participation in Christ Renews His Parish (CHRP) retreats. At these he made many friendships with like-minded men of faith, especially Fr. Phil Cyscon who led the retreats during his tenure as Pastor of OLV. He was devoted to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Virgin Mary, praying the rosary daily. Upon retirement from the Cook County State's Attorney Office in 2009, he accelerated his stewardship and community service for which he was well known and regarded. He and Dolores served on the St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. Tarcissus and later St. Bridget of Kildare upon moving to Hobart in 2019. They also drove elderly parishioners to Mass and ran errands for them, never refusing to help anyone in need. Most of all, he was deeply devoted to his family as evidenced by his hard work at both full and part-time jobs to provide them opportunities and the best life possible. He truly led a most Wonderful Life and was deeply loved and will be missed greatly by the many whose lives he enriched. Visitation on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at 8:00 am at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W.
