Joseph P. Jancaric, age 90, of Hobart IN, passed away on Monday, December 17, 2017 at Brentwood of Hobart. He was born in Gary, IN to the late Mato and Anna (Srbelj) Jancarich. Joe graduated from Emerson High School in 1946 and subsequently enlisted in the Army. He was stationed in Whittier, Alaska where he served as a longshoreman. Joe has been a member of the American Legion Post 54 for over 50 years.

Prior to retirement, Joe was employed as an electrician at Midwestern Electric. He was a proud member of IBEW Local Union 697. Joe will be remembered by his many friends and family for his strength of character, powerful work ethic and most notably as a man with a kind and generous heart.

Joe was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley and son, Bob. Also preceding him in death are his brothers, John, Nick and Frank and sisters, Catherine Ratkay, Frances, Rose, Angeline, Sophie Gawor, Violet Carabetta and Anne.

Joe is survived by daughters, JoEllyn (Bob) Ryan of LaPorte, IN and Joni Martin of Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren, Matthew Jancaric of Portage, IN, Amanda (Caleb) Armstrong of Tazewell, VA and Cassie Brady of Guam; sister, Florence McDaniel of Kerrville, TX; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
