Joseph S. Kobylinski, age 90, a longtime resident of Lake Station and also Hobart, passed away on Wednesday, August 3,2011. Joe was born on May 9, 1921 in Hobart, Indiana the son of John and Nellie Kobylinski. Joe proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Medical Corp. Joe was married to Helen Hyka on June 27, 1942 in New Chicago. Joe was employed as a dye setter for Gary Screw and Bolt Company. He was a member of Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and American Legion Post # 502 in South Haven.
Joe is survived by his loving family; daughter Linda (Jim) Murray, Lake Station, sons Joe (Patti) Kobylinski, Hobart, and Brian Kobylinski, Portage, grandchildren Jimmy (Carla) Murray, Karen (Donnie) Owen, Joey Kobylinski, Kelly Kobylinski, and Matt Kobylinski, great grandchildren Thomas Murray, Zachary Murray, Tyler Murray, and Kathryn Owen, brother Jack Kobylanski, Indiana, Mike Kobylanski, California, sister Frances Mitro, Fort Wayne, and other loving family and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Helen Hyka Kobylinski, brother Frank Kobylanski, sisters Estelle Krewitz, Vera Predaina, Freda Wasylevich, Helen Kucan, Josie Boynak, and Jean Schroeder.
A visitation for Joseph Kobylinski will be held from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, August 8, 2011 at Rees Funeral Home – Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. Morning visitation will be held from 9:00 am to 10:00 am on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 directly at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 2447 Putnum Street in Lake Station with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Portage. Memorials in Joe's memory may be made to the donor's choice.
