Joseph A. Samreta, age 74, of Hobart, passed away Friday, January 9, 2015, at his home in Hobart. Joe was born on March 26, 1940 to the late Joseph and Frances (nee Rys) Samreta in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was a retired probation and parole officer for the United States Federal Courts. Joe was the President of the Silver Bell Club, Polish National Alliance (PNA), Lodge 2365 since 1994. He was a National Director of PNA where he actively served on the Business Review Board. He was the former Commissioner of District 15 PNA and former Vice President of Indiana Division of the Polish American Congress. In addition to his other endeavors, Joe recently served as a coordinator for a trip to Washington D.C. for local Veterans. He will be remembered as a loving father, brother, grandfather and friend.
He is survived by his loving children, Joseph Andrew (Shannon) Samreta, Michelle Denise (Daniel) Stalilonis and Mary Ellen Samreta, four grandchildren, Joseph Alexander, Madison Ann, Andrew James and Samuel Robert,
four sisters, Virginia (Donald) Harrington, Barbara Crick, Christine Samreta and Carol (Nick) Woehnker, brother-in-law, Phillip Furman, close friend, Laurine Baumgart and many other loving family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Eleanor (nee Furman) Samreta and his parents.
Funeral services for Joe will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 beginning with 10:30a.m. prayers at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, Indiana 46342 proceeding to Assumption BVM Church, 3530 Illinois Street, Hobart, Indiana 46342, for a 11:00a.m. Mass of Christian burial with Rev. Kevin McCarthy officiating. Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Portage. Visitation will be held from 2:00-8:00 pm on Monday, January 12, 2015 also at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, The PNA Madame Curie Circle, Lodge# 3134 will give a prayer service at 3:00 p.m. followed by a prayer service by the PNA Silver Bell Club, Lodge # 2365.
