Joseph J. Subart, Sr., age 73 of Hobart, formerly a longtime resident of Lake Station, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2014. He was born on December 24, 1940 in Gary, Indiana.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Stephanie (nee Cardinale) Subart; son, Joseph J.(Cristi) Subart, Jr.; daughters, Pamela Morgan, Deborah Heath (fiance Kevin), Cynthia (Harley) Hehr; grandchildren, Jason Cherry (Julie), Justin (Tara) Cherry, Nick (Courtney) Morgan, Michael Morgan, Brandon Heath, Robert Heath (Katie), Stephanie Subart, Delaney Subart, Skylar Subart, Victoria Subart, Michael Owen, Jaclin Owen (Justin); great grandchildren, Katlyn Cherry, Bryan Cherry, Julie Castillo, Mariah Oppenhuizen, Brailynn Morgan, Livia Owen and Gemma Rosaschi; special ex son in law, Harry Heath, Jr. ; mother –in-law, Gladys Smith; sister-in-law, Judy Santolino; three brother-in-laws, Sam (Debbie) Cardinale, Steve (Dee) Cardinale and Ed Ferguson, numerous nieces , nephews and other loving family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Geneieve Subart; daughter, Mary Ann; grandson, Jeremy Cherry; great granddaughter, Madalin Owen-Rosaschi; sister, Dorothy Ferguson; son in law, Larry "Fuzzy" Morgan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Joseph's name may be made to Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church.

Joseph retired from Mono-Sol, as a Machine Operator for 37 years. He was a Gary Frobel High School Graduate and from St. Hedwig Grade School. He loved to go to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren's sporting events; to films and movies; taking pictures and making each of them their own scrapbook albums. We're gonna miss you Mister Camera Man.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 am on Thursday, October 30, 2014 directly at Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church, 2949 Willowcreek Rd, Portage with Father Andrew Corona Officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation for Joseph will take place on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 from 4:00–8:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage, Indiana.
