Josephine Azar
Age 89, Lake Station passed away Monday, March 30, 2026. She was born on March 8, 1937, to the late Joseph and Alice (nee Hallak) Haddad in Jerusalem, Palestine. She was a devote Catholic and lived a life grounded in faith, love, and unwavering dedication to her family.
Josephine was the heart and rock of her family, always keeping everyone close and connected. She found great joy in cooking and was known for preparing meals as if she was feeding an army. Her kitchen was a place of warmth, laughter, and togetherness.
A wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Josephine will be remembered for her kindness, strength, and the deep love she shared so generously. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished and held together with such care.
She is survived by her loving husband of 67 yrs. Jamal Azar, three sons, Hytham (Mervat) Azar, Ayman (Arwa) Azar, and Wasfi “Sam” (JoAnn) Azar; ten grandchildren, Jimmy, Jamal, Raed, Jamil, Shady, Reema, Jazmin, Hussam, Noor and Laith; three great-grandchildren, Alan, Josie and Colton and many other loving family members and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Nicholas Haddad, Michel Haddad, Anton Haddad, Elias Haddad, Leona Haddad, Mary Haddad-Seriani and Helen Haddad.
Funeral service will begin Tuesday, April 7, 2026, with 9:15 am prayers at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road Hobart, Indiana 46342 then processing to Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church 2949 Willowcreek Road, Portage, Indiana 46368 for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am. Burial will be held at Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso. Visitation will be held Monday, April 6, 2026, from 2:00-8:00 pm with a 4:00 p.m. prayer service at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, Indiana 46342.
