JOSEPHINE GOINGS, age 86, of Portage, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2024. She was born on April 5, 1938, in East Chicago, Indiana to the late James E. Turner and Irene (nee Fox) Turner. Josephine grew up in the Brunswick section of Gary and was a 1957 graduate of Edison High School in Gary. She was also a longtime resident of Gary/Aetna from 1961-1996. Prior to marriage, Josephine worked for Calumet Tobacco in Hammond and in the 1990's at Ralph Foods in Miller.

She is survived by her children, Gregory (Lisa) Goings of Lake Station, Barbara Goings of Portage, Beverly (John) Goings of Lake Station, Charles (Jennifer) Goings of Hobart, Indiana; grandchildren, Michael, Jason, Kristina, Emily, and Haley. As well as so many beloved nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her late husband of 33 years in 1995, Charles E. Goings, son, David Goings, and her beloved sisters, Mary Henderson and Patricia Sweeney.

Special Thanks to Wyndmoor Assisted Living for making her feel at home for nearly two years. A very special thanks to the staff and nurses of Avalon Springs Health Campus in Valparaiso and Dunes Hospice of Valparaiso.

There will be a visitation for Josephine on Friday, January 3, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 12 Noon, all at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 W. Old Ridge Rd. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Portage.
