Judith Pauline Wilson Shirey Scott, age 75, of Portage, passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at her home following a long illness. She enjoyed her final days with her family, grandchildren, great grandchildren and best friend Sally Nelson. She chose to meet her Savior on her terms and entered Glory greeted by her mother and a host of angels. She was recently baptized by Pastor Don Good of Bible Baptist Church in Portage. Judy enjoyed Bingo, taking trips, was out going and loved to be surrounded by family and friends. She will always be remembered for dancing to her own beat and shuffling to the strains of the Oak Ridge Boys' country hit 'Elvira'. Judy was born on May 8, 1940 in Gary, Indiana and was raised in the area. She had a close bond with her sisters and brother. She attended Hobart High School and finished at Portage High School. Judy was an excellent roller skater. She kept her treasured white skates in a red metal box. She met Billy Shirey, an ironworker from Clay County, Alabama, and she told her sister that she would marry that ex GI in the Thunderbird convertible. They married in 1957 and had three children. They moved to Sarasota Heights in the rapidly expanding city of Portage. She lived there from the late 1960s until the 21st century. After the loss of her first husband, Judy met and married Dwayne Lee Scott and they had two children together. Dwayne also had a daughter. With all six of their children, they made a life together for the next forty years until Dwayne's passing. Other than a few years in Westville, Judy spent most of her life in Portage. Judy loved being a waitress where she could interact with people. She worked several years at Cappo's in Portage when it was in the old Portage Mall.

Judy is survived by her sons: Randall (Cynthia) Shirey, Kevin (Merideth) Scott; daughters: Gloria (Stephen) Heideman, Pennie (Charles) Ehlers, Kelly Shirey, April (Mike) Shoppa; grandchildren: Brian (Christen) Ball, Erica Geiselman, Elizabeth (Ryan) Shirey-Riffle, Ariana Scott, Haylee Scott, Ella Scott, Heather (Michael) Jamieson, Hollie Baxter, Alexandria Shoppa; great grandchildren: Lilian Ball, Andrew Ball, Landon Riffle, Kheyanna Riley, Katelyn Baxter, Miyah Jamieson; brother: Wayne (June) Wilson; sisters: Jean Wilson, Grace Wilson; lifelong friend of over fifty years: Sally Nelson.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Albert and Pauline Wilson; husbands: Billy Shirey, Dwayne Lee Scott; sister: Beverly Rayborn. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Judy's name may be made to Bible Baptist Church, 6659 US Highway 6, Portage, IN 46368.

A funeral service for Judy will take place Monday, September 14, 2015 at 10:00 am at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage with Pastor Don Good officiating. She will be laid to rest at McCool Cemetery in Portage. Visitation for Judy will be held Sunday, September 13, 2015 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
