Obituary

Julian "Rock-A-Bye" Gonzales, 94, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, December 15, 2024. A quiet strength within his family, he formerly resided in Hammond and later in Hobart, Indiana.
Born in East Chicago, Indiana, to Claro and Marina (Alviso) Gonzales, Julian dedicated 42 years to Inland Steel as an overhead crane operator before retiring. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion Allied Post 369 and the Disabled American Veterans.
A man of simple pleasures, Julian enjoyed daily walks along Knickerbocker Parkway, reading The Times each morning, and the thrill of a good bingo game. He was a devoted coach for his sons' Little League team in Brunswick and always brought joy with his singing, though his piano repertoire was limited to one beloved song: "Heart and Soul."
On his birthday, September 10, 1955, Julian married the love of his life, Angeline. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with joy and cherished memories. Julian now joins his beloved wife, Angeline, who entered eternal life on December 4, 2024.
He is survived by his loving sons, Julian (Mitzi) and Mark (Robin) Gonzales; and his cherished daughter, Cindy (Gerry) Pajdzik. His brother, Paul Gonzales, also survives.
He is further survived by nine grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and countless nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sisters: Basilia (CG) Castellanos, Petra (PG) Segovia, Frances Guerrero, and Cathren Colon; and his brothers: Joseph Gonzales, Jesse Gonzales, and Michael Gonzales; and by grandson Jeffrey Allen Gonzales.
He and his wife, Angeline, were former members of OLPH and Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church.
In keeping with his wishes, immediate services will not be held. However, a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the love and support they have received during this difficult time. Julian's memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
