JUNE E. (BROKER) KEGEBEIN nee Swanson, age 90, of Hobart, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, October 22, 2016, with her family nearby. She was born in Roseland, Illinois on October 30, 1925 to the late Arthur G. Swanson and Edith E. (Swanson) Borg.
June was raised in the Ogden Dunes area and was a graduate of Portage High School.
She was a freelance photographer, worked at Gary Photo Service, and was a custom photo printer at Shore Color Lab in Munster. She was very involved in Hobart politics and the community where she belonged and held offices with the Hobart Democratic Club, Hobart City Improvement Committee (HIEDC), American Legion Post 54 Auxiliary, VFW 5365 Auxiliary, and Howlin' Mad Marine Corps "Toys for Tots."
June is survived by her 3 children, Debra (late C. Al) Opolski, DeMotte, Joanne (Paul) Oros, Hobart, John Broker, Green Bay, WI; stepson, Gerald A.(Cynthia) Kegebein, Jr., Hobart;
loving grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Terry (Charlotte) Kegebein; and many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald A. Kegebein; first husband, Horace "Fred" Broker Jr.; 3 brothers, Arthur M., R.L. (Bud), & Roy Swanson; sister, Grace O'Keefe; and stepfather, Theodore Borg.
Memorial contributions may be made to Indiana State Veterans' Home.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 27, 2016 from 2:00-8:00 p.m., with an American Legion/VFW service at 7 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 W. Old Ridge Road., Hobart, IN. Funeral services for June will be held on Friday, October 28, 2016 with prayers at 9:30 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, IN 46342, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 13th and State Streets, Hobart with Rev.
