Karen R. Pelot age 74, passed away Friday, February 05, 2016 at Millers Merry Manor in Portage. She was born on October 24, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Gerald and Mayon (nee Kline) Mey. She was a professor in Merrillville, Indiana. Karen earned both a bachelor and MBA at Davenport University. She worked in management in numerous health care organizations throughout Northwest Indiana and the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. She was a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts of USA and served numerous positions as leader and Service Unit Manager. Karen enjoyed indoor and outdoor gardening and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She met Arthur in 1964 in Lynwood, Illinois. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Karen was preceded in death by Arthur, her husband and soulmate. Karen is survived by her son, Craig (Pamela) Tisdale of Valparaiso; three daughters, Leslie (Robert) Young of Valparaiso, Stephanie (Allen Smith) Pelot of Valparaiso and Michelle (Brian) Thompson of Valparaiso; five grandchildren, Quintin, Airelle and Tyanna Young, Natalia and Zander Thompson; brother, Steve(Janet Laws) Mey of Urbana, Ill. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Pelot; her parents and brother, Phillip Mey. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 13, 2016, at 3:00pm with Rev. Tom Smith officiating at First Christian Church, 1507 E. Glendale Boulevard, Valparaiso, IN 46383. Memorial Visitation will be Saturday from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at the church. Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel assisted with the arrangements.
