Karen L. Porter, age 62, of Hobart, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Avalon Springs in Valparaiso.  She was born on September 1, 1955 in Gary, Indiana to the late Harry and Beatrice (nee Johnson) Porter.  She was a Hobart High School graduate, Class of 1973 and Indiana University Northwest School of Nursing, Class of 1977.  She began her nursing career at Gary Methodist Hospital and was the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Nurse at Porter Memorial Hospitals for over 20 years. Karen was a very involved aunt who would do anything for her nieces and nephews.  She took them on trips and spent many hours on the bleachers at their sporting events.  Karen enjoyed traveling, watching Wheel of Fortune, dining with friends and family and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

Karen is survived by her sister, Cheryle (Dan) Lewandowski; brother, Harry (Marilyn) Porter, Jr.; nieces and nephews, Ryan, Craig, Scott, and Matt Lewandowski, April (Vic) Juan, Abby (Eric) Mack; great nephews, Wesley Mack, Ian and Eric Lewandowski; and special friends, Julie and Renee and all her co-workers who displayed such kindness during her long illness.

A funeral service for Karen will take place Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 10:00 am with Pastor Bob Burton officiating at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Rd.
