Katherine A. Hersh

Katherine A. Hersh, age 87 of Valparaiso and formerly of Hobart passed away Sunday, January 14, 2018 at the VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso.  Kay was born September 21, 1930 in Englewood, New Jersey to the late Fred and Catherine (Steeneck) Thunhorst. Kay was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hobart and the Hobart Boat and Ski Club.  Kay volunteered for over 30 years at St. Mary Medical Center Auxiliary and logged over 15,000 hours.  She also served as a membership chair and an  hours chair.

Kay is survived by two sons, Clif (Yvonne) Hersh of Valparaiso, IN; Jeff (Marilyn) Hersh of Pittsburg, PA; one daughter, Lynn (Thomas) Corgan of Hobart, IN; eight grandchildren, Melanie Hersh, Jamison (Kelsey) Hersh, Taylor Hersh, , Christopher Corgan, Jennifer Corgan, Monica Corgan, James Corgan, and Kevin Corgan and two great-grandchildren, Farrah Hersh and Ava Burgless.

Kay was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Ralph, Twin sons, Bruce and Ross, a granddaughter, Amie, a grandson, Spencer, one sister, Carol Blumeling and one brother, Herbert Thunhorst.

Funeral services are Thursday, January 18, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart.  Cremation will follow with Rees Funeral Home and Cremation Service.  Visitation is Wednesday January 17, 2018 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a 4:30 p.m. St. Mary Medical Center Auxiliary service at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel.  Call (219) 942-2109 or online at www.Reesfuneralhomes.com .
