Katherine E. Martin

Katherine Elaine Martin, age 58, of Valparaiso, passed away Saturday, October 27, 2018 at the VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso.  She was born in Gary, Indiana on November 6, 1959 to Patricia Bonvissuto and Richard Schmidt.  Kathy graduated from Portage High School.  She married Ken Martin and together they had one daughter, Kara.  Kathy worked in the Pharmacy at Walgreens for 40 years.  She loved gardening and flowers, rummaging, her dog, shopping, fishing, being in her pool, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.  Her wings were ready, but our hearts were not.

Kathy is survived by her loving husband, Ken Martin; daughter, Kara; sister, Deborah Mantta; brothers, Chuck and Max Schmidt; mother, Patricia Bonvissuto; and five grandchildren, Landan, Kaysen, Paityn, Emersyn, Sawyer.

She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Schmidt.

A funeral service for Kathy will be held Friday, November 2, 2018 at 11:00 am with Chaplain Craig Forwalter officiating at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave. Portage, IN 46368. She will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery, Portage.
