Kathryne J. Howell – Vittorio, nee Matfiak, age 90, passed away on Thursday, June 09, 2011. She was born on November 24, 1920 in Gary, Indiana the daughter of Anthony and Julia Matfiak. She was a graduate of the 1939 class of Horace Mann High School. Kathryne was a co-owner of the Home Beautiful by Howell's Custom Drapery Business. She was also a past member of the Young at Heart Bowling League, a member of Saint Bridget's Catholic Church, a eucharistic minister, a member of St. Anne's Con-Fraternity, a volunteer for the St. Mary Auxiliary, a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, a member of the Hobart Women's Club, was a Girl Scout / Brownie Troop Leader, and organized the first reunion for the Horace Mann Class of 1939.
Kathryne is survived by her loving family; daughters Karen (Norbert) Matulis, St. John, Diane (Robert) Misner, Portage, and Linda (Michael) Roque, Portage, grandchildren Cindy (Tim) Schuler, Dawn (Chris) Haskell, Michelle (Jon) Loftin, Lori (Jeff) Yesh, John Matulis, Tony (Jill) Matulis, Scott Misner, Melissa Misner, Brett Misner, Scott Schuler, Tim Schuler, Mike Schuler, Angela Wilson, Gina Vittorio, and Nick Vittorio, great-grandchildren Asher Matulis, Hanna Yesh, Keira Yesh, Zack Schuler, Lindsey Schuler, Brett Haskell, Hunter Haskell, Hailey Loftin, and Makenzie Loftin, and many other loving family and dear friends. Kathryne was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Luther Howell, her second husband M.J. Vittorio, son Jerry Vittorio, daughter Patricia Schuler, brother Michael Matfiak, and sister Helen Testi.
A visitation for Kathryne Howell will be held from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday, June 12, 2011 at Rees Funeral Home – Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, 46342. Morning prayers will be offered at 9:30 am on Monday, June 13, 2011 at Rees Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Saint Bridget's Catholic Church, 568 East Second Street, Hobart with Father Dominic Bertino, officiating. Burial will be at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville. Memorials in Kathryne's memory may be made to Saint Bridget's.
