Kathy Lynn Strayn

Age 69, of Portage, Indiana passed away on February 28,2026. She was born on September24, 1956. Kathy worked in sales at McDaniels Fire Systems, where she was known for her dedication, kindness and strong work ethic. She was a woman of quiet strength and a deeply caring heart. Above all else, Kathy was a devoted and loving mother. She was always there for her son- unwavering, supportive, and selfless in every way. Her life was centered around love, sacrifice, and compassion for those she cared about. She had a gentle spirit, a giving soul, and a natural way of making others feel safe and supported. Kathy will be remembered as a wonderful, caring woman who put others before herself and lived her life with grace, love and purpose. Her presence, kindness and unconditional love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Kathy is survived by her son, Richard Matney; three siblings, Nancy Atwood, Kevin Barker, and Diana Barker; many nieces and nephews; her good friend, Serene, and many other loving family members and friends.

Kathy was preceded in death by her husband Robert Strayn, her parents and brother, David Barker.

A funeral service for Kathy will be held Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at 10:00 am at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave. Portage, Indiana 46368. Burial will follow at McCool cemetery. A visitation for Kathy will be held Tuesday, March 10, 2026 from 4:00-8:00 pm also at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel.
