Kenneth D. Gobin, age 82, of Hobart, passed away Monday, November 27, 2017 at home surrounded by his family. He was born on May 19, 1935 in Junction, Illinois to the late George and Genola Gobin. As a dedicated member of the Portage United Pentecostal Church, Kenneth worked tirelessly as the general contractor during its construction. He also served as a board member, a trustee, Sunday school superintendent, and played guitar during services. Kenneth had a great love for his church and the congregation he knew as family. Above all, he dedicated himself to taking care of his own family and will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Bertha Gobin; children, Veronica (Ben) Carpenter, Kenneth Gobin, Marlene (Tommy) Spencer, Christine (Dave) Coban, Kathy (George) Games, Albert (Julie) Gobin; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother, Deon (Carla) Gobin; sister, Vivian (Harold) Caffee; a host of loving nieces, nephews and other loving family members.
Kenneth was preceded in death by two sons, David Gobin and Robert Gobin; four sisters, Wilma Stone, Betty Sharp, Bonnie Patterson, and Phyllis Powell; one brother, Donald Gobin. Memorial contributions in Kenneth's name may be made to the Portage United Pentecostal Church.
A funeral service for Kenneth will take place Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 9:30 am at Portage United Pentecostal Church, 2865 Willowdale Road, Portage with Rev. James Fielder officiating. He will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, December 1, 2017 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the church. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage. For more information, please call (219) 762-3013.
