Kenneth J. Nowak, age 70, of Hebron, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 06, 2018 in Downers Grove, IL.  He was born in Gary, Indiana on August 24, 1947 to the late Stanley and Adela (nee Bieniek) Nowak.  He received sacraments and assisted as an altar server at Assumption BVM Catholic Church in New Chicago.  Ken was an athlete at River Forest High School, Class of 1965 and enjoyed working at the Pavilion in Gary for his Uncle Eddie Nowak when he was young. Ken was proud of his Polish heritage and growing up in New Chicago.  He attended Indiana State University, until he enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served on the USS Hancock during the Vietnam Conflict.  He spent his entire career at Nipsco, where he held various positions.  He was a member of the American Legion, Post 454 in New Chicago.  Ken was an avid Notre Dame fan who also enjoyed golfing, gardening, and family gatherings.  He cherished his daughters and granddaughter and will be remembered for his sense of humor, his stocked sweet shop and especially the love for his family.

Ken is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Francine (nee Prusinski) Nowak; daughters, Nicole (Mateen) Ahmad, Megan (Nick) Baffes; granddaughter, Gabrielle Baffes; brother, Robert (Janie) Nowak; sisters and brothers in law, Barbara (Rich) Kosiba, Dennis Garber, Marsha (Dennis) Bunda, Scott (Beth) Prusinski, Susan (Tom) Witt; special cousin, Karolina Pieprzak of Szczecin, Poland; numerous nieces and nephews; and special buddies, Misiu and Jaeger.

He was preceded in death by his parents; parents in law, Stanley and Frances Prusinski; and sister in law, Janice Garber.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made, in Ken's honor, to the American Legion, Post 454, 3139 Michigan St, Hobart, IN 46342.
