Kent S. Widener, age 81 a longtime Hobart resident passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2024.  He was born on October 19, 1942 in Gary, Indiana to the late Frederick and June Widener.  Kent grew up in East Gary and graduated from Edison High School in 1962. He served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam.   Kent worked as a Fleet Manager for Charter Steel retiring in 2009.  He also worked on the side as a musician playing the drums in numerous bands.  Kent was a member of the Merrillville Trinity Free Methodist Church, the Hobart Elks, the Valparaiso Elks, the Winamac Old Auto Club and the Hobart Moose.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Widener (nee Shetzley) of Hobart, IN; one son, David Widener of Hobart, IN; two daughters, Dina (Bob) Allen of Phoenix, AZ; Diane (Dez) Shoulder of Indianapolis, IN; and five grandchildren, Ian Allen, Madison Allen, Noah Shroyer, Andrew Shroyer, and Chris Thielen.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Splitgerber.
