Klaus Karl Eugene George Breunig, age 77, of Portage passed away Thursday, June 15, 2017. Klaus was born April 8, 1940 in Mannheim, West Germany to the late Karl and Anna (Abele) Breunig. Klaus was a Millwright that retired from US Steel. He also worked for the Simmons Mattress company for 19 years. Klaus was a former member of the Duetsche Sanger Bund and a member of the USW Local Union #1014.
Klaus is survived by his loving wife Renate Breunig; his two sons, William (Marie Torres) Breunig of Portage and Johann (Michelle) Breunig of Crown Point; his daughter, Annemarie (Tordell) Meely of Valparaiso; eight grandchildren, Corinne (Sam) Sowles, Marissa Breunig, Stephanie (Ryan) Ford, Michael (Cammi Ann) Dreesen, Deshea Meely, Tyra Meely, Nathanael Meely, and Xavier Breunig; three step grandchildren, Jonita Dolton; Michael Nordyke and Josephine (Juston) Walton; four great grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; and his sister Annemarie (Stephan) Bryczek of Toronto, Canada.
Klaus was preceded in death by his parents, Karl Breunig and Anna (Abele) Mulevicius and his step grandson Matthew Nordyke.
Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Wednesday June 21, 2017 at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel 5341 Central Ave. Portage, Indiana 46368 with Rev. officiating. Burial will follow in McCool Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the time of the services at 1:00 pm at the funeral home.
