Obituary

Larry R. Collins

January 18, 1960 – June 17, 2026

Larry Collins 66, of Union Mills, IN, passed away peacefully on June 17 at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 18, 1960, in Gary, IN to Myrtle and Edward Collins.

Larry grew up in Hobart, IN and attended Hobart High School. He was a lifelong mechanic who dedicated almost 50 years to his trade. He was most known for his sense of humor, and his ability to be able to fix most anything.

Larry had a deep love for all things auto racing. He was often found at Broadway Speedway in Crown Point, participating in the race alongside his brother, working on racecars, or just watching the events. One of his final moments was spent at home listening to a NASCAR event.

Larry spent his last year and a half on earth known as Poppy to his granddaughter, who he absolutely adored. They spent many days together playing outside, watching trains pass by, eating cookies, and napping on the couch. Georgia was by far Larry’s hardest goodbye.

Survivors

Larry Collins is survived by his wife, Lyn Collins; his children, Chance Collins and Callie Collins; his beloved granddaughter, Georgia Renbarger; siblings, Sharon Kaiser (Jeff), Debbie Gagna (Rich), Connie Phipps, Dawn Kodelke (Tony), and Kim Cook (Jack); and sister-in-law, Vickie Collins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Myrtle and Edward; his brothers, Terry Collins and Ricky Collins; and his two favorite dogs, Pup and Tag.
