Lawrence Brian Lynn, age 66, a longtime resident of Portage, passed away on Monday, February 13, 2012. He was born on December 10, 1945 in Gary, Indiana, the son of Larry and Eleanor Lynn. Larry proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam conflict. He then founded and was the owner and president of Lynn Electric. Larry was married to Sherie Lynn on May 13, 2009 and she preceded him in death on June 11, 2011. Larry was very active with the American Legion Post # 260 in Portage, was a Past Commander, member of the American Legion Honor Guard, and served as the 2nd District Commander. He attended many of the legion conventions and competitions. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Forty and Eight, the Knights of Columbus, and the Portage Exchange Club. Larry loved to go fishing and take fishing trips to the Tippecanoe River with his father and his sons.
Larry is survived by his loving family; daughters Tammy (Randy) Westmoreland, Wheeler, Jennifer (Ryan) Lynn Dandy, Las Vegas, sons Larry (Michelle) Lynn, Hobart, Eric (Elena) Lynn, Valparaiso, stepdaughter Tamara (Byron Subero) Ross, Waldorf, Maryland, stepson Dennis (Kathy) Dalka, Portage, mother Eleanor Lynn, Portage, grandchildren Randy Westmoreland, Ricky (Melanie) Westmoreland, B.J. (Michael) McGehee, Dominic Reboy, Kennedy Lynn, Ellen Lynn, Emma Lynn, Eric Lynn, Elisabeth Lynn, Mikella Larese, Cody Dalka, Matthew Layhew, Ryan Hall, Sean Hall, Karen Hussey, Devon Ross, and Janessa Donely, great-grandchildren Joey Conley and Macie Westmoreland, sister Sandra (Jack) Tapper, Valparaiso, brother Terry (Sandy) Lynn, Hobart, mother-in-law Virginia Hunt, Valparaiso, nieces and nephews Lynn (Joe Redelman) Mills, Jackie (Don Bauer) Andrews, Jack Tapper, Jr., Christine (Eric) Koczur, Terry (Jenny) Lynn, Jr., Kelly (Joe) Leirman, and Anthony Lynn, long time beloved friend Laurel and LeeAnn Wielogorski, close friends Vicki and Woody Born, children's mothers Barb (Bill) McGehee and Kitty (Russell) Lee, and his beloved and loyal dog Harley.
He was preceded in death by his father Larry Lynn, and his wife Sherie Lynn.
A visitation for Larry Lynn will be held from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at Rees Funeral Home – Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage. A prayer vigil will be held at 3:30 pm on Thursday and an American Legion Memorial service will be offered at 7:00 pm on Thursday. A morning visitation will be held from 9:30 am to 10:00 am on Friday directly at Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church, 2949 Willowcreek Road, Portage. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, February 17, 2012 at Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church, with Father Andrew J. Corona, officiating. Burial will be at McCool Cemetery in Portage. Memorials in Larry's memory may be made to the Veteran's Home.
