Laura A. Hollister

Laura (Mochan) Hollister, age 71, of Wheeler passed away in the comfort of her home on Feb. 9, 2026. Born on Dec. 1, 1954, to Marco and Genevieve (Vereb) Mochan, Laura grew up in Hobart, IN where she graduated from Hobart High School in 1973. She went on to have various careers in insurance, as a stay-at-home mom, a bookkeeper, and finally in healthcare for Community Health, from which she retired in 2023. Laura was a fierce defender of women’s rights and loved gardening, animals, and protecting the environment.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Thomas Mochan and John Mochan.

Laura is survived by her husband of 48 years, Dennis Hollister of Wheeler, IN; two daughters, Kristin Hollister of Indianapolis, IN, and Heather Hollister of Cedar Lake, IN; her sisters Barbara Janulis (Valparaiso, IN) and Janet Ryan (Chesterton, IN); and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, whom she greatly enjoyed spending time with.

Memorial Visitation will be held on Feb. 28, 2026, from 1-5 PM at Rees Funeral Home 600 W. Old Ridge Road Hobart, IN. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a local teacher via DonorsChoose.org or to your local Humane Society in Laura’s memory.
