Lavonia "Polly" A. Warren, age 86 of Lake Station passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2016. Lavonia was born on February 5, 1930 in Neboville, Tennessee and was raised in Rutherford, Tennessee. She married Herbert D. Warren on May 12, 1948 and they moved to Gary, Indiana in 1949. She is now at rest with God and reunited with her husband Herbert and her parents, Jesse Lamb Johnson, Sr. and Georgia Vestal Gray.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Benjamin Franklin Johnson Sr.; James Edward Johnson; Horace Lee Johnson; Jesse Lamb Johnson Jr.; Wendell Ray Johnson; and Frazier Rollin Johnson; sisters Doris Marie Parker; Laverne Isabella Johnson; Lindell Fay Johnson; and Alice Josephine Freeze.
She is survived by her children, Jesse (Ruth) Warren, Indiana; Deborah (Bill) Choate, Florida; Donna (Tom) McHenry, New Mexico; Danny (Vicky) Warren, California; Randy (Erin) Warren, New Mexico; grandchildren, Emily Warren (Ray Yang), Washington; Naomi Warren (Ross Welch), Missouri; Esther Warren (James Pena), Illinois; Richard (Dawn) Choate, Florida; Tom (Sara) McHenry, Illinois; Andy McHenry, Arizona; great-grandchildren, Jonah and Eloise Yang, Washington; Avi Welch (Missouri); Bo and Finley Warren-Pena, Illinois; Jared and Sydney Choate, Florida;
and numerous nieces and nephews and other loving family and dear friends.
Lavonia was a kind and compassionate person throughout her long and happy life as well as a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. A life-long member of the Church of Christ, she attended services in Glen Park, Hobart, Merrillville in Indiana and in Newbern, Tennessee. For over 40 years, she served as a Sunday school teacher and was an active member of Bible Study Fellowship. Lavonia was a member of the Women's Ladies Auxiliary of Liverpool-Oregon Volunteer Fire Department from its inception to its closure. She also served as a Poll volunteer for over 20 years. Throughout all these activities she supported her husband Herbert in all his endeavors. Lavonia provided a loving and spiritual home for her family where all were welcome and no one ever left hungry.
A visitation for Lavonia Warren will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 28 at Rees Funeral Home - Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 29 at Rees Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Hobart.
