LAWRENCE W. WHEELER, age 80, of Lake Station, passed away Sunday, June 25, 2017 at St. Mary Medical Center. He was born on December 11, 1936 in Washington, PA. Lawrence proudly served his country in the National Guard and Air Force. He retired from LTV Steel as an electrician after 32 years of employment. He was a member of Liverpool Baptist Church and volunteered at both the Porter Regional Hospital in Portage and the Porter Memorial Hospital. Lawrence will be remembered as a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Lawrence is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Jane (nee Ostrander); 2 children, John Wheeler, Chesterton and Judy (David) Sharkey, West Lafayette; 4 grandchildren, Chad Wheeler, Stacey Layman, Katelyn Wheeler, and Moira Sharkey; 8 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren; brother, Tom (Bonnie) Wheeler, Washington, PA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Francis Wheeler; 9 siblings, Donald, William, James, Robert, Harold, IlaDale DiVincenzo, Dolores, ElVada Harvey, and Estelle Wheeler.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 W. Old Ridge Rd. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
