Layona Saige Dragash, age 14, of Lake Station, passed away Sunday, September 4, 2016. She was born on February 11, 2002 in Hobart, Indiana to Michael G. Dragash and Tronya C. McGaughey. Layona was currently a ninth grade student at Thomas Edison High School in Lake Station. She liked to draw, enjoyed her French class and absolutely loved music. Above all, she cherished her dogs, Mea and Lettie; and her beloved rescue cat, Powder. She will always be remembered for her intelligence as she was already reading at a college level.

Layona is survived by her father, Michael G. Dragash; mother, Tronya C. (Mitchell Wahlman) McGaughey; paternal grandparents, George Dragash and Deanna Brown; maternal grandfather, Glen McGaughey; uncles, Eric McGaughey and Craig Willet; aunt, Chandra (William) Campbell; close friends, Blake Harris, Kylie Wahlman and Elijah Wahlman.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Cynthia McGaughey. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Layona's name may be made to her mother, Tronya McGaughey.

A funeral service for Layona will take place Sunday, September 11, 2016 at 5:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart.
