Leon Shaffer, age 84, of Portage passed away Friday, October 2, 2015. Leon was born February 22, 1931 in Gary, Indiana to the late Nolen C. and Alma (nee Clear) Shaffer. He retired from US Steel and EJ&E. Leon was a member of the American Legion Post 502. He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend,
Leon is survived by three daughters, Joyce (Tom) Damron of Lake Station, Barbara (Bill) Evans of Lake Station and Kay (Don) Trowbridge of Valparaiso; 13 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great grandchildren; brother, Verl (Sylvia) Shaffer of Culver; sister, Ellen Scott of Hammond and many other loving family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years Marcella (nee Weaver) Shaffer; daughter, Sandra White and infant son, Donald Shaffer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel 5341 Central Avenue Portage, IN 46368 with Pastor Bob Burton officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Portage. Visitation will be Monday, October 5, 2015 from 2-8 pm also at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, Portage.
