Leonard L. Ohls
Hobart, Indiana

Leonard L. Ols, age 97, of Hobart, passed away on November 18, 2014. He was born on September 5, 1917 in Gary, Indiana to Martin F. and Mary Mae (Vetter) Ols. He was a longtime resident of Hobart and a graduate of Hobart High School. Leonard retired from U.S. Steel in 1982 having worked in the Gary Merchant Mill. He was a member of the American Legion Post #54, AmVets and United Steel Workers Local 1014.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Herbert Ols, Sr. and Harold W. Ols. Also by his step sisters, Margaret Driscoll, Marion McKinney and Helen Mae Poore; and one step niece, Patricia Nelson.

Len is survived by his nephews, Frederic Ols of Hobart, Herbert (Peg) Ols of Michigan City, Martin (Peg) Ols of Maryland, Michael Ols of Florida and a niece, Mary (Bentley) Steilman of Wisconsin. Also survived by Dennis Driscoll, Sharon Roehm, Janet Pool, Julia Lynn Ols, Scott (Heather) Ols, Calynn Ols, Corbin Ols, Chelsea (Jeremy) Krautkramer and Tim Graver.

Leonard was an Army Veteran of WWII. He served in England, North Africa, Italy, France and Germany. During his service he was awarded a campaign ribbon, silver star and arrowhead.

A private funeral service was held. Cremation followed with burial at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of visitation, memorials in Leonard's name are requested to the Hobart Food Pantry, P.O. Box 394, Hobart, IN 46342. Arrangements were entrusted to Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, Indiana. For more information, please call 219-942-2109.
