Lewis "Gene" Gilmer

age 78, of Michigan City formerly of Portage passed away Thursday, December 31,2020 at home. He was born on January 5, 1942 the son of the late Lewis and Myrtle (nee Limburge) Gilmer in Talladega, Alabama. He retired from Mittal Steel in 2007 and worked security in his spare time. He was president of the Deep River Bowman Archery Club and proudly served his country in the United States Army. His family was his pride and joy, he enjoyed fishing and hunting.

He is survived by his wife of 12 yrs. Lee Ann (nee Cathcart) Gilmer; children, Rene (Dave) Pipas, Robert Gilmer, and Rhonda Williams; stepdaughter, Jamee Fields; 13 grandchildren, Nichole, Jennifer, Amber, JJ, Tammy, Corey, Jessica, Josh, RJ, Alexa, Shelbee, Olivia and Blake; 16 great-grandchildren, Abriella, Justin, Addisyn, Bradley,Brianna, Maddux, Madilynn, Payton, Covah, Olivia, Destiney, Laticia, Bella, Demetrie, Lucious and Javier; two brothers, Paxton  and Corvin Keefover; two sisters, Amelia Alexander and Augusta Gaskins and many other loving family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ginger Gilmer, grandsons, Ritchie, and Nicholas; great grandchildren, Mercedes and Jaxsin; his parents and son-in-law Rick.
