Lewis Guy Nelson, age 73 of Hobart passed away January 27, 2026, at home. He was born on July 9, 1952, in Valparaiso, Indiana to the late Guy and Virginia Nelson. A 1970 graduate of Chesterton High School, Lew worked primarily as a Laborer for Boyd Construction. He was a jack of all trades who enjoyed helping people. He enjoyed the simple things in life, especially fishing and spending time outdoors. Always thinking of others first, he kept up his pool in the Summertime so that the kids could swim in it, although he never did. He will be sorely missed.

He is survived by his sisters, Melanie (Ira) Biggs of Kouts, Linda (John) Prosser of Jupiter, Florida; nephews, Ira (Wendy) Biggs, Eric (Anna) Biggs; 7 great nephews and nieces; extended family, Tracy Biggs, Cindy (Rob) Helding, and Beth Barber.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Greta Burnett; his parents, Guy and Virginia Nelson; and his sister, Trinka Nelson.

Visitation will be held Monday, February 2, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. A funeral service will follow at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Cremation will take place with burial of cremains later at Calvary Cemetery.
