Lillian Laba, age 90, a longtime resident of Hobart passed away on Sunday, June 05, 2011. She was born on March 13, 1921 in New Chicago, Indiana the daughter of John and Katherine Bieniek. Lillian was married to John Laba on February 23, 1946 in Hobart. Lillian was a homemaker and a devoted member of Assumption B.V.M. Catholic Church. She was known for her support of Assumption through her hard work in the kitchen, hall set-ups, and cleaning for over 20 years. Lillian loved to bake for her family and friends. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and a friend to all.

Lillian is survived by her loving family; children Linda (Allen) Cox, Hobart, Barbara (Robert) Burton, Valparaiso, and Robert (Susan) Laba, Hobart, grandchildren; Kevin (MaLisa) Cox, Cassandra Cox, Ryan (Danielle) Burton, Jeffrey Burton, Timothy (Elizabeth) Laba, and Brandon Laba, great-grandchildren Jamie and Zakary Cox, and Blake and Emily Laba, step-brother Frank Dzik, Schererville, and other loving family and dear friends. Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John Laba, brother Joseph Bieniek, sisters Julia Szalmasagi, Rose Kochan, and Adela Nowak.

A visitation for Lillian Laba will be held from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at Rees Funeral Home – Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart with afternoon prayers at 3:30 pm. Morning prayers will be offered at 9:30 am on Thursday, June 9, 2011 at Rees Funeral Home followed by a mass of Christian burial at 10:00 am at Assumption B.V.M. Catholic Church, 3530 Illinois Street, Hobart with Father Jon Plavcan and Father Lourdu Pasala, officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
