Linda J. Ortiz, age 69, of Hobart, passed away Friday, April 7, 2017. She was born on April 28, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Arthur and Veronica Handel. Linda retired after 30 years of working as a Licensed Practical Nurse at many different facilities in Illinois and Northwest Indiana. After retirement, she volunteered many hours working at The Answer and the Hobart Food Pantry. She was a dedicated member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Linda is survived by her son, Dameon (Ann) Ortiz; daughter, Tracy (Wayne) Scher; grandchildren, Matthew Scher and Gage Curry; special cousin, Barb Caruso; many other loving family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Veronica Handel; and husband, Ben Ortiz. Memorial contributions in Linda's name may be made to The Answer for Pregnancy Aid, 705 North Colonial Dr., Hobart, IN 46342.

A memorial service for Linda will take place Thursday, April 13, 2017 at 7:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, IN.
