LUCY McGUFFEY, age 88, of Valparaiso, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2013 at VNA Hospice. She was born on March 15, 1925 in Strawberry, Arkansas to Alonzo and Maggie Jane Simmons. She enjoyed doing puzzles especially word searches. Lucy will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her 5 children, Linda (Richard) Chandler of Westville, Lana (Gerald) Fossett of Alabama, Lonnie (Susan) McGuffey of Portage, Lola Hasselbring of Griffith, and Landon McGuffey of Valparaiso; 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Julie O'Conner of Arkansas and Minnie (Charles) Munsell of Portage; significant other, James "JD" Kasinger; other loving family and friends.
Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, Lindsay E. McGuffey; her parents; granddaughter, Tricia Ferguson; 2 brothers, Herman and Thurman Simmons.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VNA Hospice.
A visitation will be Monday, November 25, 2013 from 10:00 until the time of service at 12 Noon at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage, with Rev. Ronnie Cox officiating.
