Lynda Sanders (Nee: Buchman), 81, of Portage passed away on Friday, July 19, 2024.  She was born October 10, 1942, in Orange, Texas to the late Chester and Jessie (nee: Jones) Buchman.

Lynda moved with her family from Texas to Portage in the early 1960's, where she met the love of her life, Billy "Red" Sanders.  They were married on April 3, 1965, and were together for 56 years until his passing in 2021.  Lynda was a homemaker and enjoyed doing things around the house.  As a younger woman, she spent hours with friends bowling or playing cards to pass the time.  Lynda loved the holidays and making her famous dumplings for friends and family to share.  She was an avid dog lover, especially her sweet Lulu.  Above all, Lynda loved her family and friends, she will be missed by all who knew her.

Billy would like to thank Tina and Jeanne and her girls (Bailey, Alivia, Sue and Rosie Posey) for the wonderful care given to his Mama.

Lynda is survived by her son, Billy (Valerie) Sanders, Jr.; granddaughter, Michelle (Billy) Sauls; great grandchildren, Katy (Kenny) Barns, Alyssa Blankenship, Seth Blankenship, and Brianna (Preston) Jarnigan; great-great grandchildren, Wyatt and soon Barrett; sisters, Frances Mills and Janette (Allen) Coludrovich; and dear family friend and caregiver, Tina LaRue.

In addition to her parents and husband, Lynda was preceded in passing by her daughter, Mary Joe Grochowski; sister, Lorene Gatlin; and her little wiener dog, Lulu.

Visitation will be from 9:00am – 11:00am Thursday, July 25 at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage, IN 46368.  The funeral service will begin at 11:00am with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery in Portage.
