Lynn Edward Evans, age 84 of Portage passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2014. He was born on August 13, 1929 to the late Harvey and Agnes (nee Fehrenbacher) Evans in Gary Indiana. He graduated from St Joseph High School in 1947. On September 16, 1950, Lynn married the love of his life Violet Poldrugach in Gary, Indiana. He was a lifetime Northwest, Indiana resident and a lifetime member of St Bridget's Church of Hobart where he was an Usher, Eucharistic Minister, Commentator and a 3 year carnival chairman. Lynn was a retired Electric Systems Supervisor at Nipsco. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus-St Thomas Council, where he was a recipient of the Columbian Award, a member of Hobart Moose, a Boy scout leader for 12 years and a little league manager for 5 years. Lynn was an avid bowler, fisherman and golfer. Lynn will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Lynn is survived by his wife, Violet (nee Poldrugach) of Portage, IN; three sons, William (Cathy) Evans of Hobart, Robert (Debby) Evans of Hobart, Donald Evans of Portage; two daughters, Mary (Charles) King of Valparaiso, Denise (Jim) Gainer of Pennsylvania; brother, Harvey (Carol) Evans of Hobart; 2 sisters, Joan Curtis of Hobart and Carol Lewis of Valparaiso; 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial Donations may be made to St. Jude Children Hospital or to Valparaiso Horton VNA Hospice. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 10:00 am at St. Bridget Catholic Church, 568 E. 2 ^nd Street, Hobart, Indiana 46342, starting with 9:30 am prayers at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, Indiana 46342. Cremation will follow with burial of cremains at a later date.
