Mabel M. Lawrence- Brandt
Age 93, a long time Portage resident, passed away Monday, October 8, 2012 at VNA Hospice in Valparaiso. She was born on August 17, 1919 to the late J.B. and Annie Chessor in Tennessee. Mabel spent her life devoted to her family and was a member of Church of God of Prophecy of Portage. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and friend.
She is survived by her 3 sons, James (Ellen) Lawrence of Portage, Hobert Lawrence of Tennessee, and Ernest (Sandra) Lawrence of Chesterton, 16 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, 3 daughter-in-laws; Marie Lawrence of Hobart, Shirley Lawrence of Portage, and Clara Lawrence of La Porte, Indiana.
She is preceded in death by her husbands, Henry E. Lawrence in 1972 and James Brandt in 1996, 4 sons Henry E., James Louis, Robert T. and J.B., sister: Louise, 6 brothers; Hobert, Arlis, Vernon, Brown, Walter B. and Leslie K. Chessor.
Funeral Services for Mabel will be held Friday, October 12, 2012 at 11 am at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage, Indiana with Pastor Danny Tackett officiating . Burial at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, October 11, 2012 from 4:00-8:00 also at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel. In lieu of flowers donations to the Lawrence family would be appreciated.
