Mabel June Tennant, age 85, a longtime resident of Lake Station and recently from Boone Grove, passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2011. She was born on October 29, 1925 in Darlington, Indiana, the daughter of Hurshel and Mamie Cox. Mabel was married to Alfred Tennant on October 30, 1953 in Gary. Mabel was the owner of Mabel's Café in Lake Station and also cooked for over 17 years at the Supervisor's / River Point Country Club. Her greatest joy in life was cooking and baking. She also enjoyed helping others as she could. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, aunt, and a dear friend to all.
Mabel is survived by her loving daughter Kathy "Kay" (John) Farrar, Boone Grove, the entire Farrar Family, sister Margaret Overholtz, Indianapolis, numerous nieces and nephews, and other loving family and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Alfred Tennant in August of 1995, four sisters, and ten brothers.
A visitation for Mabel Tennant will be held from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Monday, September 12, 2011 at Rees Funeral Home – Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart with a funeral service following immediately at 6:00 pm.
