Obituary

Manone "Nonnie" Parker (Lynn) of Portage, Indiana passed away on 17 December. Nonnie was born 1 October 1923 near Columbus, Ohio. She graduated in 1941 from Edison High School in East Gary, Indiana. During World War II she worked at U.S. Steel and was a true "Rosie the Riveter." Nonnie spent 13 years employed by A&P. With her husband she purchased Parker's Grocery in 1964 expanding it to a successful delicatessen and catering business "Parker's Deli" for 25 years. Nonnie worked for the Porter County Council on Aging as a site manager at both the Friendship Center in Valparaiso and the Duneland Center in Chesterton for 15 years until her health required her to stop working at age 84.
Nonnie will be remembered as a loving and generous friend, excellent cook, and a fan of the Chicago Cubs. Her happiest days were spent with family over beautiful holiday meals and listening to jazz.
Nonnie is survived by her three children, son Dave and daughter-in-law Rainie Parker; son Daniel Parker; and daughter Susan and son-in-law Charles Gibson; three grandsons, Zac Parker, Steve Bowen, Bradley Gibson; and 3 great-grand children; her brother John Lynn and sister-in-law Carol.
